What’s The Fastest Way To Clean Window Blinds?

Window blinds are a common household item. They allow a person to control how much light enters a home. However, people often forget to clean them. This is why it is so common for window blinds to accumulate a lot of dirt, dust, and debris. If blinds aren’t cleaned consistently, they can become stained. The following includes some basic tips for how to quickly and efficiently clean window blinds.

Dusting is an integral step in cleaning window blinds of all types. One can use a feather duster, cloth, or vacuum for this job. Be sure to dust both the front and back sides of the window blinds. Generally, it’s best to begin at the top of the window blinds and to work down. Dusting them at least once a week is the best way to keep blinds looking new.

Deeper cleaning methods depend upon the type of blinds one has in their home. Blinds are generally made out of metal, fabric, or wooden materials. Each type has its own upkeep needs. Using the wrong cleaning method could ruin the window blinds.

Metal blinds need to be treated gently. If they are pressed too hard, they could be permanently bent. To clean such blinds, an effective cleaning method is to take them down away from the window. After this, place them outside so they can be sprayed with a hose. One should only use this cleaning method for metal blinds. Hosing fabric or wooden blinds with water could definitely ruin them.

Fabric blinds can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner’s upholstery brush. Take the brush and run it over both sides of the blinds. If dirt has built up, try spot-cleaning the area with warm water and a bar of mild soap. Do this sparingly: Too much water and soap could ruin the texture and look of the fabric blinds.

Wooden blinds are sensitive to water. Thus, try cleaning the wooden blinds with a dusting spray and a cloth.

First, close the blinds and then lightly spray the area and wipe it as gently as possible. Follow this by flipping the blinds over to repeat the process on the opposite side.

Try using a dryer sheet to help limit the amount of dust that accumulates on them. This is effective for all types of blinds.

Rub the sheets on both sides of the blinds. This can save a person a lot of time. Any type of dryer sheet can be used. However, if you want to spice up the scent in a room, try using scented sheets.

Lastly, take the time to read the instructions that come with window blinds.

Some blinds may have instructions for how to clean them. No matter the blinds, take the time to dust them at least once a week. This will prevent debris from collecting and staining the blinds. More thorough or deep cleaning of the blinds should be done every few months. Don’t forget to vacuum the floor after dusting!
